If right about now you’re thinking, you can’t eat flowers, Laurie, that’s simply crazy talk.  Well, you will be delighted to know that not only are many flowers edible, they are also nutritious and can add pizzazz and beauty to any otherwise plain meal or beverage.

Among the more notable are lilacs, pansies, day lilies, chrysanthemums, lavender, sunflowers, dandelions, nasturtiums, roses and violets. Many of the blossoms from common vegetables, fruits and herbs are also edible.The nectar and pollen of flowers is packed with vitamins, minerals and macro-nutrients. Vitamins A and C and the minerals iron, calcium and phosphorous are commonly present in leaves and petals.

*Fancy Flower Ice Cubes*

Ingredients:

A handful of pesticide-free (preferably organic) edible flowers of your choice

Filtered/spring water

Ice cube tray

To Prepare the *Fancy Flower Ice Cubes*:

Step 1: Cut small, colorful pesticide-free edible flowers from your garden (that have not been sprayed with any kind of chemicals) or buy edible flowers at your local health food store and/or farmer’s market.

Step 2: Fill an ice cube tray half full of spring/filtered water. Place in the freezer until water freezes.

Step 3: Remove the tray from the freezer and place one flower in each of the individual ice cube cups. Top off with enough water to cover the flowers.

Step 4: Return the flower-filled ice cube trays to the freezer until the cubes are frozen.

Step 5: Remove the cubes from the trays and use in beverages.

Step 6: Enjoy!!

  1. Thank you so much for this article! I just wrote a post about making fruit flavored water, but this is far more beautiful! I am amazed at all of the flowers that are edible. I have to try this one.
